Toyers
When there is a big build up of mana on Senluna, a toyer (a portal) will open randomly. Most of the time these are small little blips that pop in and out of existence randomly and don't cause much harm but sometimes a much larger one will appear.
Toyers opened this way can lead to anywhere, other parts of Senluna or other planets. There are even some spots on Senluna that are more likely to open a toyer, such as along fault lines and some creatures take advantage of these more regular and predictable bursts of mana.
Toyers naturally have a bit of suction, with larger ones this can cause surrounding objects to get picked up and pulled through and because it tends to be a stronger suction on one side then the other this causes anything caught in it to be thrown through the toyer. More often the not this is just objects or plants but sometimes creatures may also be pulled in.
Due to the mana being used to create the toyer, creatures that come through it that did not originate on Senluna may experience odd changes to their form, however creatures leaving Senluna that were from there don’t experience the same changes because their bodies are adapted to the mana the toyer uses.
So an Ascalabote can travel to Earth and not change form but if a dog were to follow them back the dog would change into something else.

side effects
Side effects tend to effect those who get pulled through unknowingly. It can range from mild to complete amnesia, an overwhelming sense that something is wrong, general fear of the unknown, jamais vu (opposite of deja vu).
When a creature goes through a toyer willingly they don’t tend to have many if any side effects. It’s assumed it’s because their minds were more open to the changes the mana made then those who go through unwillingly.
Adjusting to senluna
It may take a while for the creature to adjust to their new form and planet. Many try to find a way back but jumping in random toyers isn’t recommended since it’s hard to tell where they may lead.
For most of their history Ascalabotes weren’t very welcoming to the confused strangers that came up. They called them the Turbidus and would chase them away from the camps in fear they may be dangerous. Now that the clans have dissolved into one they are much more used to welcoming in strangers.
Fortis is a skilled toyer creator and has traveled off world. He is very good at making sure Turbidus Ascalabotes get settled in the clan. Of course due to toyers only being reliable if the Ascalabote can remember the place they want to end up, he can’t send them back to their old world.
While Nundince hasn’t said he made it off-world he’s often the first one newcomers to Senluna meet since he seeks out the random toyers to retrieve any alien objects they might pull through so he can trade them. He’s pretty gruff but he understands that being thrust into a completely new world may be confusing and tends to point newcomers in the right direction.
