When Ascalabotes uses magic it is visible by a glow coming from any part of the Ascalabote's body (paws, tail, eyes, horns, spikes, belly, whatever!). The player can choose what part of the body glows when using magic.
The colour of the magic is dependent on the element currently being used! For example, fire has a red glow, air a yellow glow, water a blue glow and earth a brown glow. The glow is only there when the Ascalabote is using magic!

Similarly with skills the character does not need to learn magic. It's just a cool variety and helps with some careers or quests!
Learning mana in world
Learning magic is simple. Every bote has mana and it is an inseparable part of their life, while it is important to mention that not every Ascalabote has identical mana.
Let's take a pup named Zizi as an example of a fire mana owner. Zizi, at this stage of life, is capable of first-tier skills in fire mana (i.e. Heating the air, Increasing your temperature, Heating objects by touch), which means that he does not need to learn them in the future. How does Zizi know he has fire mana? Pups are unable to learn mana other than natural mana and only know the first tier. They discover their mana completely by accident, Zizi discovered that he had fire mana because when he got very angry his body became much warmer and began to glow red (signifying the use of fire mana). There is no specific way in which pups discover their natural mana, there are cases of botes who do not know their natural mana until adulthood!
Zizi being already an adult Ascalabote decided to develop his fiery skills. To do this, he learned from books/scrolls/from other Ascalabotes what skills were possible with the use of fire mana. With the knowledge he gained, he knew how to progress to second tier and third tier magic by trial and error.
Ascalabote mediocris lost their innate connection to mana a long time ago, however with the clan having a fresh start in a new place they are starting to learn it again!
Leaning mana mechanics
In the group if we want the Ascalabote to learn their natural mana up to the third tier we have to draw or write how they use a particular skill or fail.
Requirement for number of drawings/stories for natural mana:
The drawing or story must be worth 6 lunae
Teens can learn up to tier two natural and unnatural mana!

So, if our character wants to learn Heating the air then we must draw once (1) how they try or use this skill
If our character wants to learn Creating Fire then they must know the skill Heating the air and must be drawn twice (2) as they try or use that skill
If our character wants to learn Creating Fire then they must know the skill Heating the air and must be drawn twice (2) as they try or use that skill
Learning Not Basic elements
The drawing requirement is exactly the same as for unnatural mana, but there are additional requirements. An Ascalabote must be able to use two elements to learn mana above the basic level!
That is, if we want to learn the mist element we must know fire and water at a minimum of T2 from each skill tree.

What about in the case of non-natural mana? How does a character learn other skills?
There is magic in every Ascalabote's body which means they can learn any mana they want although with difficulties. If you want your character to learn faster, you can do a quest to get a power crystal that will help you learn one (1) non-natural mana.
If a character has a power crystal then the drawing/story requirement is the same as for natural mana

The drawing or story must be worth 8 lunae

What if we don't like the natural mana of the character we chose and want to change it?
There is a quest for that too! The item responsible for changing the natural mana is called the Potion of Change. It can be made by Teens and Adults. This item changes a character's natural mana BUT if our character has T3 (Tier 3) of any skill from their natural mana and we want to change it then unfortunately they lose T3 of their previous natural mana and have to learn it all over again (this avoids abusing the natural mana change just to learn new skills more easily).
Characters cannot change natural mana into Not Basic mana and above!
