about Mutations
Being an evolving species, Ascalabote the ability to change their appearance over time depending on how much they are written/drawn.
Most evolving species call these changes "upgrades" but unlike other evolving species groups where the current design of a character is their canon appearance Ascalabotes can canonically change their appearance as they age and since this causes genes to change the upgrades for Ascalabotes are called mutations!
You can still call them upgrades since they are the same!

understanding mutations
What does this mean?
This means that to apply Stained glass wings to an Ascalabote, that Ascalabote must be at least 6 months old and you must have at least 800 Lunae. You need to paint the Ascalabote on something clear and the Ascalabote must have floating wings before this mutation can be applied.
In breeding this mutation does not pass down but is increases the chance that the Ascalabote will have a Rainbow Ascalabote and decreases the chance it will have a Sea Ascalabote.

Genetics in mutations
Much like the real world, some traits can be dominate or recessive, this is applied in mutations. Mutations can also impact the species that can be produced.
In breeding, both parent's mutations are considered which means if one parent has a dominate mutation and the other parent has one that is recessive the offspring is more likely to have the dominate mutation.

In breeding, the mutations a pup inherits can also impact what species it becomes. These effects can cancel each other out or build on each other.

These icons mean the mutation will have a positive effect on producing the species (they will increase the chance)

These icons mean the mutation will have a negative effect on producing the species (They decrease the change)

Following the example
As everyone has their own style and way of interpenetrating, it isn't as important that you stick to the mutation example just make sure the mutation is recognizable and doesn't imitate another mutation.
Mutation overlap
There can be some overlap with mutations such as an Ascalabote can have several teeth mutations however there are some mutations that cannot overlap such as wings or ears.
Unless stated, mutations that evolve (wings, ears, ect) replace the old mutation, however this isn't always the case and if both mutations can be applied then it will be stated in the mutation's rules.
In some cases mutations will pass down that would be hidden on the Ascalabote as a kid (Such as pure fur on a pup) you can either overlap the mutations (Back fuzz being visible over the baby fuzz) or keep that mutation "Hidden" until it can be properly expressed (Glowing markings without any specific marking type)
Mutation progression
There are many mutations that can grow over time and develop into new designs as an Ascalabote ages. This can be a bit confusing to try to keep track of so there is a handy guide to all the mutations that can grow over time as well as the age/Lunae needed for them!
Other Ascalabote species
All Ascalabotes can get all mutations regardless of their species so even if a mutation has a decreased chance of producing a Sea Ascalabote, it is still possible for a Sea Ascalabote to have that mutation it will however increase their chance of producing a Standard Ascalabote.
