Cortex
It's hard to know if a cortex is a plant or not. They seem to grow overnight and can grow anywhere, even places without water. Oddly there are never more the two cortexs in the same spot.

Cortex never seem to grow in height, they appear seemingly over night at their full height though that may vary between individuals.
Much like cresces, cortexs also have a symbiotic relationship with moshkh. moshkh often grows over the cortex, covering the core and creating spirals down the branches.
Inside a Cortex
When the branches or core are cut of a cortex is cut open it looks similar to an Earth root cross section.

Branches
Mateaicus
Underground from the main core of the Cortex the roots tangle together to create a net-like structure around a soft metallic material that can be molded with heat and once it cools it becomes unable to be molded again and has a similar strength to steel. This metallic material is called Mateaicus by Ascalabotes.

uses
The Mateaicus can be molded into armor and tools, even it can be fitted to roofs to provide extra protection.
Branches can be woven together to create woven art or large mats that can be used to create ealies.
