Anatomy
Canielens have six legs, each with a paw and three toes. The two pairs of front legs have rounded paws with retractable claws while the back legs have square paws with claws that cannot be retracted. A shell made of keratin grows from their back, this can range in shape and color often being much brighter then the rest of the body, these shells grow in layers throughout the Canielen's life with a new layer growing every year, as a pet these shells can be filed down to prevent them from getting to heavy, this does not hurt the Canielen as it's just like filing a fingernail. Covering the rest of their body is a very fine layer of soft fur.
Canieles have a wolfish face with forward facing eyes, like most Senluna creatures these eyes have no visible sclera though they have a slit pupil. Their ears are pricked and can rotate in any direction giving them 180 degrees of hearing.

Intelligence
Canielens are highly intelligent with their general intelligence being similar to highly intelligent dog breeds. They can understand Ascalabote language and can be taught to follow commands.
In the wild
Canielens are a skittish species that is most active at dawn and dusk. Wild packs stay away from other species though in the dry season they can be seen around Ascalabote settlements to scavenge food and water.
Similar to lions, wild packs are ruled by a single male with several females and their cubs. Males use their shells as dominance displays to ward off rivals and to attract other females to the pack, their shells are also used to help identify individuals as the markings on the shells are always unique to the individual.
In the pack, labor is divided among the females with some designated hunters and others designated nursemaids and protectors of the cubs. This is decided based on age with the older more experienced females leaving the pack to hunt and the younger females staying with the safety of the pack.
Though uncommon, Canielens have been known to take in lost or abandoned juveniles of other species.

Diet
Canielens are omnivorous, their main diet is fruit and seeds though they also hunt small animals or scavenge from a larger kill. In the dry season their claws are strong enough to cut into the bark of the Cresce so they can eat the soft wood or drink the sap.
Canielens get their main source of water from the Cresce fruit or from the Kaykolo stems.

Family
Most females in the Canielens pack are related as females will normally spend their entire lives with the pack they were born into. Male cubs are forced out of the pack at the beginning of their third dry season when they reach sexual maturity.
If a new male takes over a pack, the females between two and three years old tend to leave to find a new pack. Canielens can have litters of up to 15 cubs in a den dug underground. These cubs are born completely deaf and blind and rely on their mother for three months before they are able to leave the den. |
Communication
Canielens have a mix of canine and feline calls. Depending on the pack and location depends on what kinds of calls are used. When communicating over a long distance in the mountains or forest Canielens howl however they will roar when communicating on the plains. In close proximity they have a wide range of sounds, from grunts and soft barks to purrs and hisses.
