Anatomy
Blobs are spherical creatures that are found on the seafloor of the ocean on Senluna, they are filter feeders with no visible mouth. Blobs have a soft, yielding membrane that covers their body, while both deep water and shallow water blobs appear semi-transparent their internal organs are not visible. While their eyes are large they aren’t very developed and are not much more than eye spots, allowing the blob to see light, dark, and some movement. They do not see colors well. Blobs have four or more “nubs” at their base that help them crawl along the seafloor, forest blobs have longer nubs that are covered in a sticky substance that helps them stick to plants. Water based blobs have small crests on their top that can be used to confuse predators, if it’s removed it will grow back. Each crest is unique to the blob. Forest blobs have a large crest that grows to look like any kind of Earth mushroom but like the water blobs they can lose this crest and it will grow back.
Shallow water blobs
Shallow water blobs are the most likely to be kept as pets as they often wash up on beaches. They are also the most colorful of the blob species and can come in all kinds of shapes and colors. |
Deep water blobs
Deep water blobs are very rare to find on the surface, they only wash up after a very strong storm. They tend to be more oval in shape and are more transparent than shallow water blobs. Their eyes tend to be reflective and they might also have small amounts of bioluminescence. |
Forest blobs
The largest species of blob, they are found crawling on Cresces and other plant life. Their nubs are longer and covered with a sticky goo that helps them climb around their environment. Their eye spots are slightly more advanced and they can see some washed out colors. Idea for forest blobs come from Thecatsmeowlol |
When a shallow water or deep water blob gets washed onto shore its membrane hardens into a soft shell, protecting the blob from drying out and providing more structural support, this happens very quickly and the shell dissolves as soon as the blob is put back in water, it will regrow a shell if it’s taken out of water again. Forest blobs have a permanent soft shell that does not dissolve in water.
Blobs without a shell cannot last very long on land since they squish down into a puddle

Intelligence
Blobs are not very intelligent, they act on instinct much of the time and are very passive. Forest blobs are the most intelligent and some can be taught a few simple tricks.
In the wild
Blobs are found all over the seafloor, they are very passive and are typically left alone by most sea creatures as they are slightly toxic and taste very bitter. Forest blobs live a very similar lifestyle in the Cresce forests.
Diet
Water based blobs filter sand and water through their membrane, separating the phytoplankton from the less edible sand. On land they “vacuum” the Moshkh, feeding on the microorganisms they pull up from the ground.
Forest Blobs don’t filter feed the same way as their water based cousins, they are decomposers, consuming decaying organic material. The goop they use to climb can also help break down organic material if it’s in large quantities so it can be absorbed into the blob. It’s not uncommon for a forest blob to stay in one place for a few days while it eats.

Family
Blobs do not have any parental care. In the middle of the flood season they have mass spawning events. Polyps hatch from their eggs a few days after fertilization and appear as small balls as none of their nubs or crests have developed yet. Polyps will drift in the current until they bump into something solid where they will attach themselves to it for the remainder of their youth, filter feeding solely from the water around them. In roughly a month they will have reached their adult size and will detach from the solid object.
Forest blobs have a similar spawning event but right before it happens all the blobs in the area gather close together. Due to the polyps being too heavy to be carried far by the wind, they will often attach themselves to the adult blobs.

Communication
Blobs do not have much communication, deep water and forest blobs can signal each other with bioluminescence to synchronize events like spawning.
In the group
Blobs are a pet species Nundince or other members may have some for trade and they are often given out as prizes or adopts.
They cannot be obtained with a custom pet item.
Blobs cannot be sold or traded outside of the group
Blobs cannot leave Senluna on their own
